the Mondays

Just got back from Houston and unloading my car. Everytime I go home, I always bring back a bunch of stuff. My one car load of stuff (if I were to ever need to evacuate or move out quickly) has now turned into like 3 car loads. sigh.

Thought I give a quick update before I unpack my junk. First off, I haven't had time to post that I got to meet Yao Ming this past Tuesday! All I can say is that he is incredibly tall, and my 3 inch heels got me past his belly button =p I'm too tired to write more about it so if you want to read more go to Jason's site and look for the 9/27 post. You can also see the pictures of that night in his flickr.

This past weekend, Dave got married! More weddings! We drove to Dallas Friday night and crashed. Saturday was the wedding. It was a really nice day and the ceremony was beautiful. Luckily I don't ever seem to get tired of them, which is good seeing how my attendance at weddings is not going down any time soon. I do love them and hopefully I'll still love them when it's my turn! jk! I am excited to see my friends so happy. Next up is Jersey's in October =)

So it's 4:00p on Monday. I am a bit under the weather but hopefully it won't turn into anything big. Guess I played too much this weekend, or I just slept with wet hair under the AC vent =(

Leah's Day

Yesterday was Leah's Birthday! I don't know why I didn't post it. Saturday night we took her to dinner in Kemah and then a little surprise at her place afterwards. I had a really great time. I hope you did too, Leah!

Complaints...sorry

I probably shouldn't even be complaining or voicing my opinion because if anything I should have spoken to the manager at Office Depot about this anyway. But I just wanted to say I am really frustrated at the one guy that works there. I drove all the way to the other side of the island, yes it's really not that far but it still takes a good 15 minutes or so, to find that he couldn't find the printer that he said he had anywhere in the store. The only one he could find was the one on display after he told me yesterday there was one left, which I asked him to hold for me. This morning I called before I left to make sure it was still there and he said yes he will have it for me when I got there. Well I got there and found him and said I was the one that called to pick up the printer. He goes ok, I know I have two (what?!?! you said 1 yesterday, no matter I still get one). Well we go looking around, strange he said he have it for me. Then he says well I can't find it but we have the display one you can have. I ask him if I get a discount bc it's on display. He said no. So he said he's going to check in the back. After all this, I come back empty handed!!! Seriously, I wouldn't have down there if they didn't have one. Oh well, I probably should have told the manager and get his booty in trouble, but I don't do confrontations like that well. I'll cry like a lil baby, and I don't like it when ppl see that! Where my friends when I need them?!?! hehe...

oh, on top of all that. I check my email when I get back and find that UTMB has charged the Allied Health students incorrectly for tuition. They charged us $60 per hour instead of $70. Who makes mistakes like that! If they are so tight on money, don't you think that would have been checked more than once? Seriously...

haha...what a way to start out my Monday. Got up early for nothing. I'm off to the admin building to get my work set up and to the library. wow...I'm going to the library!

I've Got Mail!!!

whooohooo...I was really excited to open my mailbox and find 2 letters instead of just 1. I have been waiting for my parents to send me my SS card so I can start work and get paid. When I opened my mailbox this morning there was an extra something! I was stinkin' excited especially since it wasn't a bill but a drawing from Sungjin =) I like my drawing very much Sungjin. It fits nicely in the "Land of OT." I like it lots! Here it is for y'alls viewing pleasure!

Whoohooo

Last Sunday was our first IM Football game. It took me a long time to get use to the rules and what not here. We tied the first game and won the second game so technically we are undefeated!
It is suppose to be co-ed football but it is not really enforced. The second game we played was all guys...tall, fast guys! But we beat them anyway =) and look at me!!!



It's on the other side of the field and players kinda blocked the viewing but it kinda works! BUT I sooo miss UT IMs...

Buskers

Last night I went out for the first time in Galveston. Took me long enough, but I have yet to be here on a weekend. and Thursdays I'm usually behind in readings so I don't go. Anyway, we had lots of fun last night at Buskers. We were suppose to go to the Lounge here, but no one really wanted to pay to get in. We think we had to. The is important thing is we had a blast last night, and amazingly, only one went home drunk! Thanks Brad for driving 4 girls there, to Whataburger afterwards, taking someone home, and back! Although, I don't think you minded having us HOT ladies around! haha...

First Graded Assignment in Grad School

and week 3 of school has begun...I took my first quiz today. I thought I did decently, pulling answers from here and there. I knew they weren't exactly the right terms used but close enough. I actually wrote more than I thought I would. but then we got to the going over the answers. Yeah...I'm not quite sure if I got any right anymore =( Funny thing is, when I read, I take notes. The answers to the questions I had written down in my notes. I vote for open notes quiz next time! What a sad way to start off the week to have already followed a sad weekend.

Rosenberg Elementary

I did my interview this morning at the elementary school to work there. I left at like 7:45a and was parked by 7:55a. So I sat in the car falling asleep til 8:20a. Geez, who knew there would be parking around the school bc when I drove by yesterday, there wasn't any spots. So hopefully my work study will work for this, and I start getting paid and get credit for my Interdisciplinary (program that ALL students have to do to graduate). and I also called for a coordinating job on campus if the other doesn't work. or I'll just work BOTH jobs since I would like to have some sort of money in my acct. Anyway, the interview lasted like 20 min. I told them I wanted to tutor math or help out in a math classroom AND their READING PROGRAM. Yes, their reading program afterschool. yeah, seeing how I love to read, I think I just boobooed myself into something I not particularly great in.

Alright, it's time for class. I have anatomy and some other rather long class title that I'm not sure about. I also have a group meeting with my advisor during my 1 hour lunch break.

Day off

I did good today! I got a lot of stuff done =)
I woke up early and got my Hep B titer done to make sure I don't have it. For some reason when I got my series, they didn't do one after. Went to target and home depot. I really wish they made over the door towel racks that fit thicker doors! I'm tired of my towels being on a hanger. So I came back with nothing. Made lunch and ate it, made dinner but ended up not eating it for dinner. I'll just bring it for lunch tmrw. The most amazing thing though was I finished reading everything for tmrw by 4:00p. I was proud of myself. Usually I would have put it off til tonight. Then I thought about starting on Friday and next week's stuff since I'm going to be in Austin this weekend. But then the normal Annie kicked in and didn't read. Instead, I went to dinner with Leah and Brad. Then to Leah's to watch tennis/Grey's season finale and make cookies! Oh well, at least I thought about getting ahead. Haha...

Tmrw I have an interview at the elementary school for a job.
Yay, hopefully I'll soon be getting a paycheck =D

Meet my new OT friends! They are absolutely the best, well at least for now when we haven't killed each other yet bc we spend almost 24/7 with one another...jk! We had met each other during orientation and been pals since =D
I had made some chicken enchiladas in my dorm kitchen so they came to eat plus Brad and Tanner, whom both live down the hall from me. They're 2nd year PTs. I had a great time eating and chating and just chillin' out! Jamie called this our dysfunctional dinner, then she says WE ARE DYSFUNCTIONAL! I don't disagree...
But now it's time for me to read my last chapter before tmrw. I am actually pretty proud of myself for reading this much already. Undergrad, I just skipped the reading and made it through. I don't see that happening here so I must be a nerd!

This morning I went to the hospital (Wellness Center) to get my TD shot and blood work done. Well I thought they took credit card, but they don't. So I only had enough cash for my TD shot. sigh. I have to go back next Wednesday to get my blood drawn. aiya.

Little Miss Sunshine

Because I am procrasinating on my bazillion pages of reading for class, I thought I tell you about this movie I saw this weekend. Actually I won't say much except, GO WATCH LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE!!! It is the best movie I have seen this year! It may possibly be my favorite for 2006. People describe it as a movie about a dysfunctional family, but man it's more like families today. I think it is more normal, everyday situations that any of us may or may have encountered. For the most part, you can relate to someone or to some scenario at any time during the movie. I teared here and there, but I won't tell you why. You'll know when you watch it. So GO!

GREGORY GYM, oh how I miss thee

I went to the gym tonight for the first time here...I SOOOOO SOOOO MISS GREGORY!!!
I don't know if there is another gym like the GREG anywhere, I am sure there is, just not here.
Here they call it the Fieldhouse, so I will probably refer to the gym as the Fieldhouse from now on. Anyway, it's not bad really. One huge court for basketball that is divided up so that you can play more than one game at a time (kinda like the rec at UT). What's cool though is each treadmill has its own tv right in front and on one side of treadmills, there is a fan for each one too! Not much else. It looks big on the outside, but not so inside. Oooo, they provide towels too so that is cool! All in all it's not too bad for a work out place. Now if only I can get a routine going, I'd be good!

Orientation Day 3

...was really short. Kinda makes me irritated since they should have just added more stuff to today instead of us being done by 11:30A and having a free afternoon. I rather just end early and have free time at the end of all that. One more day to go and tmrw is the longest day of them all!!!

So we were done at 11:30 today and was greeted with pouring rain as we walked outside. Hm...I must have missed the umbrella memo bc I didn't bring one and so many other people did! The girls I was with, Leah, Jamie, & Lauren all had one. They're also the ones I have been hanging out with, all of us in the OT program. They're fun! I squeezed under Lauren's umbrella with her and went to get my student parking pass. $35 to park on campus (cheap!), but it is first come first serve. I really only go it for nights when I come to campus. The streets here flood so parking kinds sucks anyway. I think I am going to put in for a parking garage next year. We'll see how it goes and where I'll be living. We had lunch in the hospital cafeteria, Chikafila yum! It was crazy busy in there and we ended up just siting at a table where someone had put there stuff down. and we met them when they came back! They were pretty cool and didn't care that we decided to join their party.

My financial aid money also came in today!!! I was really excited when I checked my bank account this morning. So I paid for tuition, dorm room, and my books. Oh geez my books. So they're all new and all expensive, of course. But the sad thing was, it was raining again as I left the bookstore. They put all 6 books in a paper bag that I had to carry all the way back to my room. By the time I got back, my arms are soooo swoo0lleee!!! haha...the bad also had holes at the bottom and about to break loose. Good thing I was home and wet. Yay for my day of rain. I need to invest in rain boots.

Orientation Day 2

Today was sooo much better than yesterday. This morning we met as all the Allied Health Students and then we split up into our respective fields. It was the first time all the OTs got together and forever we will be together for the next 2 years! I think there are about 30-33 people in my class. So far, we've the largest Masters acceptance class. UTMB just changed their program to a MS degree a couple years ago. The first Masters graduating class just happen this summer!

So we broke off and met our faculty for the next year, the four professors that we will have for the next year. They seem pretty nice, however, there is one that is pretty intimidating. Her students call her The Vixen, and she knows it, and she says she likes it AND she really does live up to that name. oh GREAT! She's going to be teaching Philosophy History Ways of Knowing 1st semester...sounds so..... so they talked and we listened. I found out that they already registered for us this semester so we don't really have to worry about it. My question is why do we have to register ourselves the rest of the time when we have our classes set already? Can they not just do it for us because it's not as if we had a choice in what to take or who to take it with! This is what this semester will look like:

WOW! No classes Monday and Wednesday, and Friday I am done at noon. This is the least number of days and hours I have ever had, even during my undergrad! but I am also scared that this means, more outside work. I know we have projects and I hear crazy reading assignments. We'll see how it goes. If it's ok, then I'm going to pick up a part time job. I figured out my most my finances for the semester and I can use the extra money. But as the semesters continue, more classes and hours are added.

oh yeah, we took our ID pics today. The girls I was with kept making me laugh so we'll see how it turns out! It's our pic that will follow us for the rest of our days here. I think we also have to wear our ID badge everywhere we go. It accesses everything around here. More later!

My new travel companion =D

My new duffle bag or whatever you call it! I love it...it's huge, well huge enough for me to take back and forth from Galveston to Houston or to wherever for the weekend! It even has this sitting pad you can pull out to sit on so you don't have to sit on the ground. That I probably would never use bc it's a pain to put back, but I'll definitely be using up all the other spacious spaces it has! So now my Nike bag that has served me for almost 10 years now, yes its been that long and it still works great, will be my gym bag.

Friday night out at Chrome! We were celebrating Becky's Quarter of a Centuriness and it was lots of fun! Does anyone know who has the pictures of the girls? and can I have them?!?! I had Andrew's camera at the time, and I think the setting was wrong so everytime I tried to take a picture of us girls, it never came out. Finally Andrew fixed it or did something...I'm a n00b.

I've known this girl forever, well since the 6th grade. I think we had homeroom together and maybe another class. I can't remember! I know I'm posting this kind of late in the day but...

I'm not a slacker, I promise...

So I've been told to write something....so here goes.....

It's not like I don't like to write, I'm just not a good writer. I'm also lazy and would much rather tell you one on one what's been going on. I'm suppose to be working on sharing anyway. Most of what I write isn't very deep and pretty much are what I'm thinking about at the moment. If you want to know more, you'll have to call me up or something to get more details. and I can be freakin' random and jump subjects like that! but I've been told that the more I write the better I get. It may be true, but when I was writing my grad school essays, it didn't get better. If anything I think it got worse! Oh well, because I did get into the schools I applied to, except UTSA since I was still missing like 3 more courses. It's ok bc I'm going to the school I wanted to get into.

Woohooo...in less than a month I will be moving to Galveston, TX to attend UTMB School of Allied Health, Occupational Therapy. Yes! I will be living by the beach and yes! also the hurricanes that are likely to occur there this year. No worries about my studies. Galveston beach isn't exactly the prettiest beach, to me it actually one of the worse I've been to. So living across from the shore for the next 2 years isn't going to distract me from my studying. haha...I say that now...
So that's what has been on my mind, and I still have a lot to do before I can actually sign up for classes: 1. Get my TB shot 2. transfer my last class credit 3. sign papers and finalize financial aid (I'm sooo in debt!) 4. get health insurance (can't go to school there w/o any) 5. call to make sure of my dorm room (they said they sent me papers about my room, but I haven't seen it)

I guess I'll get to that when I come back from Philadelphia! Yay!!! Another trip and probably my last one for awhile. I absolutely LOVE traveling. That's what I like to save my money for. If I could travel for a living I would =) I have never been to Philly before. I'll be there for the Lovely Bim's Wedding. I've known her for almost 10 years! Yup, another wedding. That makes like 1,001 so far this year and there are still more in 2006. I'm gonna go broke on presents which means no more traveling for me which means I'll be sooo sad. On that note, I need to do laundry and figure out what I need to bring to Philly. I think they're going through their heat wave right now. I check the weather and it's hotter and humid up there more than it is here! ahhhhhhhhh.....I almost forgot. I think I'll be getting to see Stephanie there too. I think her and her bf and another friend are going to drive up from DC so I can see her!!! whooohooo...that means this summer I got to see my ENTIRE Ohana (minus our leader, Julie, who I tried to see when I was in SF) from 2 summers ago =p I *heart* these girls sooo much!


Oh yea, I still have to write about California. Better yet, why don't you call me and I'll tell you.
and this past weekend I went to San Antonio. Geez....

sigh...being here reminds me of why I have always wanted to live here again.

Right now I'm in San Francisco. I got here yesterday and it is soooo soooo COLD!
It's the summer, yet its like 60 degrees here. and I have forgotten to pack more than just a thin longsleeve shirt.

I spent time with Man Nam and Georgiana yesterday! It was awesome to catch up with them again. Mannie's place here is super cute and right by the bay! We walked a lot, well a lot for me since I don't ever walk anywhere but it was nothing for her now. No time to write anymore (I will later) but funny things did happen. and I got food out of it too! Then I saw George! She took me to the beach...brrrr....and then a coffee shop and her house. More on that later too.

Today Miyako, Tiffany, Tammy, and another girl from EPIC at UC Davis is coming into SF!!!
sooooo excited I cannot wait! I haven't seen these girls in two years! and I am missing Hawaii all over again. I've seen all the girls from my Ohana except for Steph who is back in Hawaii again. So I guess I'll just have to make another trip out here!

I'll wrote more after I get back on Sunday and post some pictures =)

New Home for a Month

I am in Austin until the end of June working at my old place, Children's Therapeutics. They needed another hand while in transition of office staff and therapists. Which works perfectly for me. A little extra cash before going to LA and Philadelphia in July and August (Though I probably should be saving it for the fall). I really miss working there, especially the kids. Of course the staff there too are pretty cool! So I am there working with the kids and in the office. and I am still working crazy long hours! Next week, I'll be going 10-6 everyday, which isnt too bad. I'll finally be able to get out early enough to do stuff in the evening =p Let's play! OK, I gotta get to bed. Work is early and late tomorrow.

When it rains, it POURS

The past two days has not been good for my car and me. I don't know what's going on but my car is having bad days. Thursday, My-An called me to watch Kaitlin and Kris while she was at an appt. Well on my way there, sitting at a red light, I hear a BOOM then another BOOM! and my car and I jolt. Oh geez, some woman in a truck hit the truck in front of her which hit my car. So I put my car in park and get out and this old man goes, I am sorry but she hit me and I tried to stop but couldn't. Well it wasn't really his fault, maybe a tad his fault, if he was too close to my car because I know him and I were at at complete stop. The woman comes out and says sorry I was looking for something in my car...I was like...uh great. So I tell the guy we needed to move off to the side because we were in the middle of the traffic. So the 3 of us move into the parking lot next to us. We get out and exchange information. I ask the old man if he was ok because he was breathing really really hard. He's like I don't know. He tells me he is a kidney transplant patient and has other medical conditions. I pull his truck bed door down so he can sit down, and I check his pulse. It was racing pretty fast. He asks if I can call 911, and of course I did, plus I needed to get the cops out here anyways since there were 3 of us involved. So I am calling 911 and the woman that hit us asks us if we copied the insurance information down yet, and I tell her no because I am calling 911. Then she proceeds to tell me that she had to go because she had to go to the dry cleaners. I was like...uh...you just hit us. This man doesn't look good. Not cool to just take off. I tell her that I called for an ambulance and the cops, so she can't leave. Then she tells us that she is a nurse. A nurse! and not once did she ask if either one of us were ok. I mean I looked fine but at least as the old man if he was ok. So I told her what he told me, and she says she once worked as a transplant nurse. I don't know if I would have wanted her as a nurse. She didn't show much concern for the guy. I was just praying that he wouldn't pass out right there. Anyway, the ambulance, cops, and tow truck comes. The old man asks me to call his son, so I did. He gets checked out and goes to the hospital. The cops takes our statement, checks our license and insurance. We get each others' info, and all this takes like over an hour! What a waste of time and being out in the sun at noon sucks! So I finally get to My-An's and well Kevin had to stop working and watch the kids. I was there for 5 minutes and My-An came home. haha...my car is fine. It just has two big holes and paint scraped off from the man's license plate. It's pretty big though. Other than that, nothing really damaged. Funny thing is last week, I just had my car estimated for hail damage.

So today, Friday, I was driving to West Oaks Mall to return some stuff and to meet up a friend. I was on the phone as I went under I-10 on Hwy6 when I hear my car tire run over something, making a popping noise. So I say, I think I just popped or something hitting my tires. It didn't feel right, but my car wasn't driving funny or anything. Either way, I pull over to a gas station and check my tires. I didn't see anything and figured everything was ok. I get to the mall, returned my stuff, look at the tires again, and went to Tapioca House. Truman and I were at Tap House for a pretty long while catching up and talking. As we were about to leave, I look out the window at my car and GREAT! My back right tire is flat! I knew it, I knew it!!! Haha...I couldn't believe it, I just laughed. I know how to change a tire (Dad taught me!) but I can't get the full spare out of the trunk so it really does me no good. Good thing Tru was there, even with his broken collarbone, he did pretty much everything. I felt soo bad that he had to help me and stuff, but I am so thankful that he was there and that we had a lot to catch up on so that my tire had time to deflate. and it was hot in the sun! haha...now my friends, you know what happens when you're around me! I think something has always happened when you're hanging around with me. Thank you again Tru!

**I blame this flat tire on Andrew because he had just told me earlier that he had a flat tire and had to change it this morning. haha...he didn't even go to work the day before because of his stomach**

Astros!

Wednesday night, I went to my first Astros game! I caught two balls!!! w00t =)
Andrew and I got there earlier to watch them practice, but we only got to see the Giants hit.
The game was boring. I still had fun though. For some reason, we just can't play when it comes to the Giants! I even called George to tell her we were gonna win...sigh. We lost, of course, that night. But I got to eat nachos, the same nachos that got Andrew sick. I don't know what happened. I guess I just have a stronger stomach than him! hehe...I'm thinking it was because he ate the jalapenos and drank the beer. That was the only difference since we were sharing the nachos. He had to stay home the next day. Read his blog...

Maybe the next time I go it will be a more exciting game!

I can't sleep bc I woke up at 11 this morning and then fell asleep at 4 this afternoon...this is what happens when you don't work. So I found a conversation I had with Fung back in Frebruary about my trip to Texas Tech. By the way, the first thing the cab driver talked to me about in Lubbock was about their Dust Storms that happens. He compared it to the hurricanes we get down on the gulf...I don't know what to say to that!

Ridiculous Requests

Well I don't think I really get ridiculous requests like Andrew does. I think the extent of crazy requests have been, "can you bake/cook me something" at like 4 AM during college.

Annie Moment No. ?!?!?

Vanhdy, Jenny, Andrew, Sam, and I decided to go throw around the football today near Jenny's house. We just threw around the ball and then someone decided to run some routes and what not. All was going well and the guys thought that Jenny and I should practice being QB for girl plays during an actual game. Well, I think I can throw pretty decently, except under pressure. Which obviously happens when you're QB. So when I just throw around, everything just looks better and the ball goes further, all that good stuff. When you have me throw and someone is running at me...I just panic and forget all of the fundamentals of throwing a football. V decides that I should practice being QB and not be so scared of people rushing me. Here is the set up... Jenny is rushing, I think Andrew is receiving, Sam is covering him, and V is the hiker. We get into position, I say "hike" and Vanhdy hits me squared in between my left eye and nose! ooooo geeee golly that freakin' HURT!!! The nose of the football hit perfectly at my face! Nice hit Vanhdy!!! I didn't expect him to hike it right away...lol...even though that is exactly what you're suppose to do as a center. I guess I was a little too close and a little bit close to the ground! Another Annie moment...maybe I should start keeping count :/

Lately I've been having those many moments. Like the other weekend, a bunch of us were playing football. Well I was excited about something, and I was jumping up and down. About the 3rd or 4th jump, I landed and turned my already weak ankle...haha...Samooer just laughed at me. I never did post what happened back in February when I went to Lubbock for my Texas Tech interview. That entire day was awesome! One thing after another. Haha...oh well keeps my life exciting

My Mom...

At 4:30 AM today, May 12, 2006, I will be taking my mom to the airport. She is going to Cozumel for the weekend with her best friend. Haha...not my dad, he stays here, but with her girlfriend! At first I was like, what are these two ladies going to do there?!?! But Cozumel isn't just a place for younger people to have fun, anybody at any age can go there. Well, I'm excited for my mom :P It's cool that she and her friend can still take trips here and there. I also think, this was another trip that was somewhat spur of the moment. Like the last trip she took to see the same friend out in El Paso. Her friend was out there for work, and my mom saw cheap round trip tickets to there, so she went that weekend. Well that weekend, her and my mom drove all over the place and went site seeing. Haha...these two women! Anyway, I hope she has fun and a Happy Mother's Day!

One day girls, we all better be taking trips like these! Not necessary expensive ones, but just trips with us girls!
